For your ethnographic project, you will need to observe or participate in an East Asian cultural activity or event. Cultural activity or event may take a variety of forms, such as a film analysis,* conducting interviews, analysis of news media, attending/participating in a tradition, arts, cultural festival, or religious ceremony.
To start, develop an appropriate guiding question. Having an overall topic or guiding question before beginning your project allows you to focus your attention productively and efficiently.
You will need instructor approval for your topic before proceeding to the next stages of the project.
*If you chose film analysis, you have to make sure that you will have at least one but possibly more informants, conducting brief interviews with them on the film. Those informants could be either expert (s) or someone(s) from the community that the film refers to.
