The current assignment therefore involves the generation of a research proposal, which might serve as the first step in conducting an empirical research study similar to (though more limited in scope than) those that can be seen in peer-reviewed journals. We achieve this by having you read a short existing journal article and then suggesting original research aimed at further advancing knowledge in this area.
Part 1 of this assignment (due in Week 7) involves choosing an existing journal article, reading it carefully, identifying an important future research direction, and giving some thought to how to write a research proposal that focuses on this particular research direction. Part 2 of the assignment (due in Week 8) involves actually writing the research proposal.
Instructions
1. Please obtain the following three short journal articles:
o https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0191886914004620
o https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0191886916309904
o https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0191886916307814
2. Read the titles and abstracts of all three journal articles. On this basis, decide which of these three journal articles you find most interesting. Choose that article. In the rest of the assignment, you will focus only on the one journal article you choose.
3. Carefully read through the chosen journal article. In fact, you may wish to read the article twice, the first time with a focus on content and the second time with a focus on structure.
4. Next, identify one important avenue for future research in the same broad topic area as the journal article youve just read. As suggested in the previous sentence, you should identify only one avenue for future research–but it should be an important (as opposed to trivial) avenue. There are several ways to identify an important future research avenue:
o Look at what the authors of the journal article themselves identify as important areas/avenues for future research and choose one of them for your own paper
o Look at what the authors of the journal article identify as major (not minor) limitations of their study, think about how future research could be designed to address these major limitations, and then choose one avenue for your own paper
o Identify an important research avenue on your own (i.e., one that is not directly suggested by the authors themselves)
5. Briefly explain:
o Which of the 3 journal articles have you chosen (include the full APA-style reference), and why? (1 paragraph)
o Which particular future research avenue have you identified? Why is this particular future research avenue important and necessary to study? (1 paragraph)
o If you were to write a research proposal that is as similar as possible in content to the original journal article, with the exception that you were focusing on this particular future research avenue rather than the research questions (or hypotheses) from the original journal article, please provide your preliminary thoughts regarding the ways in which the following sections of the research proposal would need to differ from the equivalent sections of the original journal article:
o Introduction section (1 paragraph)
o Method section (1 paragraph)
o Results section (1 paragraph)
Due Date
