Understanding the infection control and risk assessment requirements and ensuring they are met are crucial for safety of all especially in a healthcare facility environment. An infection control meeting should occur that covers project scope of work, location, and duration, air monitoring requirements, containment and transport of construction waste, clean-up procedures, locations and types of barriers, personal protection equipment, movement around sterile areas, and more (Touchstone & Blum, 2011). Hospitals are filled with infectious bacteria and viruses, and we are currently in a pandemic with a respiratory virus as the cause. It is important to be aware of the infection control protocols in your surroundings to protect yourself and those around you, especially in a high risk area such as a hospital. The spread of an infectious illness not only affects one’s health but also can become costly for a workforce financially with multiple workers out on sick leave delaying the capital budget project, and other liability concerns.
