Purpose:
To assess student understanding of concepts and topics described in the first half of the course.
Instructions:
Complete the Mid-Term exam. Answer short essay topics with approximately 3 paragraphs and/or diagram per response.
Grading will be based on the following criteria:
Content: Responses clearly address all aspects
Writing: Clarity, grammar, and overall quality of communication
Short essay questions:
Question 1. Thinking about research and evaluation, identify 5
key similarities and differences. Provide examples
that highlight these similarities and differences. Look at file Eval Class 1 AND Modified Eval Hourglass Diagram.pptx for reference.
Question 2. What are the standards for an effective
evaluation? Select two of these standards and
discuss why they contribute to effective
evaluations. Give examples of areas within the
evaluation process where these standards should
be employed. Look at file Eval Class 2 and Eval Class 3 for reference.
Question 3. Describe what each of the following are: Program
Goal(s), Objectives, Strategies and Activities.
Discuss the relationship between each of these
and why it is important for evaluators to identify
each of these components of a program. Look at file Eval Class 2 for reference.
Question 4. Describe each of the components of a logic
model. Discuss how logic models can be used by
evaluators. Look at file Eval Class 2 for reference AND LogicModel.pdf.
Question 5. Write one qualitative question, one quantitative
question, and one bad (either qualitative or
quantitative) question to be used to assess levels
of parent participation in an after-school tutoring
program. For each, discuss reasons why it is a
good or bad question. Look at file Eval Class 3 and/or Eval Class 2 for reference. You can review all 3 powerpoint slide lectures to find the answers to the questions.
