Did we put the positive patients with the rest of the other patients?

I have to response to my classmate post. This what he wrote. In this week’s reading, we learned that as nurses we also use non-nursing or borrowed theory in our everyday practice. These borrowed theories play a major role in nursing knowledge and practice. Biomedical theories is an example of a borrowed theory that we use in our nursing practice. In the beginning of the pandemic, everything was so chaotic. We were getting such different feedback from different areas about how to handle the influx of covid positive patients. Covid 19 was so new that there weren’t protocols set up on how to handle a positive patient. Did we put the positive patients with the rest of the other patients? Infection control was at an upheaval with all constant different isolation changes. I was involved with the committee that was formed to help the hospital deal with the pandemic. The nurses involved in the committee helped transition units to become the covid floor. Biomedical borrowed theory was utilized to help contain our covid positive patients to one dedicated covid isolation floor. All equipment that was utilized on that floor stayed there. There were a group of dedicated nurses who cared for those patients. Doctor consults were done via Zoom. Biomedical theory was important to use for this situation because it helped decrease the amount of healthcare staff that was exposed to the patients. It helped the hospital administration utilize up to date infection control protocols that were so ever changing. It helped the patients get the best possible care they needed despite the unknowns at the time. Isolation was the main protocol utilized during the pandemic. We believed with early detection and early onset isolation for the positive patients, we helped plateau this awful disease. In caring for patients, we borrow from different disciplines to give them the best health outcome possible.
