Welcome to Unit 5. This week we will continue to focus on analyzing art, but we change gears from the visual qualities of the pieces to the context in which the pieces were created. Context and art piece can not be seperated because art is not created in a vacuum. Social values, religion, traditions, culture, geography, are among a few factors that influence art pieces, which the textbook will dive into this week.
Using the Met Timeline of Art, find an art piece to discuss for this journal entry. Then using 450 words and proper grammar and writing conventions, analyze both the visual qualities as well as the historical context of the pice. An art analysis is made up of a visual analysis as well as providing a historical context, such as what was going on in the society at the time and also in the artist’s personal life. Keep your visual analysis short and provide a more detailed historical analysis for this journal entry.
