Fifteen-year-old Dolores was embarrassed to talk with her mother about the pain she felt in her private parts, but she was worried she might have gotten a disease, despite Nicks assurance that she was his first. Her mother insisted that Dolores see a doctor, who discovered cervical lesions caused by a virus associated with cancer.

I believe Dolores has contracted HPV(Human Papillomavirus.) This virus can cause skin or mucous membrane growths. There are more than 100 different strains of Papillomavirus that can cause warts. As for how the doctor can go about treating this virus the doctor should observe the growths and determine what exact strain Dolores would have. The warts usually regress over time as the cell-mediated immune system recognizes and attack virally affected cells. If someone wanted warts gone for cosmetic or pain purposes some can be removed via surgery, freezing, cauterization (burning), laser of the use of caustic chemicals. This isnt a permanent solution as new warts can be produced. Dolores would have prevented contacting this virus by abstinence or mutual monogamy with an unaffected partner. Condoms may reduce the risk of infection with HPV but do not eliminate it. Receiving the vaccine can prevent infection from four of the most common strains.

Hello class,
I believe the sexually transmitted virus involved is Human papiliomavirus (HPV). HPV is a very common sexually transmitted infection. According to the CDC, nearly everyone will get HPV at some point in their lives. This virus causes benign papiliomas and lesions that can cause cancers of cervix, vulva, vagina, penis, oropharynx and anus.
HPV lesions and warts usually go away on their own without treatment. Physicians can treat the lesions with cryotherapy, burning, laser therapy, and surgical removal of the lesions and warts. There currently is no cure for HPV so even if removed, warts may reappear.
Dolores could have protected several ways. One way was to receive an HPV vaccine. HPV vaccines can prevent most cases of HPV related cancers as well as the most common health problems caused by them. Another way she can have prevented HPV was by using condoms. Even though Nick said she was his “first” that could not have been true.
