Socialization and Culture (Week 4)

This activity effectively bridges the previous module on culture with your learning about socialization in this module. The assignment must be completed in two steps as presented below. You must post an initial response to the first part of the assignment before commenting on a post from someone else.

STEP 1: Respond to the following prompt in a response of at least 150 words:

Cultural norms play a significant role in socialization, as outlined in the example of Princes William and Harry taking a gap year before starting college. Take a moment to think about the various ways culture has shaped your own socialization. Pick a specific example of how your culture may have shaped your socialization and identify how exposure to a different culture may have shaped you differently. Use specific terminology from the module.

STEP 2: Return to respond to at least TWO other posts, each in at least 75 words or more.

This activity will be graded. My culture or Id like to say sometimes that my race has some cultural norms as well. I grew up believing in god and going to church so I also have some of these norms from my religion, but these are norms for me.

Some of my cultural norms that play a significant role in socialization are

Donating and giving to good will
Volunteer work, somewhere, anywhere.
Going to college
Having respect for elders
Make sure to always look out for family no matter what
Taking days off of school if I feel like it. (This was a choice my mom gave me although she was very surprised I went to school during any weather and sometimes even when I was sick).

Some cultural norms for women or girls are things like

Not staying out late
Dont dress revealing or provocatively
Not allowed to spend nights a friends houses.
Make sure to make bonds with plenty of females.
Year gaps of school like college
Respect others with proper manner and etiquette.

Some norms for males in my family:

Do not hit women, ever, for any reason
Respect elders
Help people that need help
Do not stay out all night
A year gap of school
Do not have multiple women, (do not bring women home) choose one you see yourself with for life, then bring her to meet the family.

Socialization is a process of gaining knowledge from others . It is like getting along with the society . Through socialization we can learn many things . Here culture plays a major role in everyone`s life. Every Countries are following their own Cultural norms. It differs from county to country . In many countries, they have different cultural norms like women drinking alcohol , smoking , in taking of drugs , work while graduation etc…But in some countries still these activities can be viewed as a bad behavior .

In my culture ,

Paying respect to the elders
showing care towards the orphans
Helping the poor
give those who don’t have
share my food with needy people
pay peoples bills
These factors has turned me into good manners .

Exposure to a different culture : According to me , Male dominance and Female dominance should not be followed.

ALL ARE EQUAL ALL HAVE EQUAL RIGHTS EACH INDIVIDUAL SHOULD DO THEIR BEST!
