Learning Objectives:
Understand the effects of legal and ethical forces in the United States business environment in defining a business organizations rights and responsibilities.
Analyze the content of the Constitution of the United States and determine which provisions of the Constitution give governments the authority to regulate business operations.
Name, define, and describe the functions of the various bodies of U.S. law. Describe their relationships with each other. Describe their sources and their effects on business operations.
Selected learners will give informal reports on the ways in which legislation is proposed to a legislative body and how proposed legislation becomes law.
Understand the following concepts.
Describe judicial and appellate review.
List the requirements for federal jurisdiction.
Describe the various types of jurisdiction presented in the textbook.
Explain court procedures – how cases go through the courts, from complaint to decision.
Explain the difference between original (trial) and an appellate jurisdiction.
Selected learners will give informal reports on the structure and authority of the Pennsylvania (or other state) court system.
Understand how to find electronic copies of court cases using the links available on the Immaculata University Gabriele Library Web site.
Be able to produce a brief, concise summary of a court decision.
