hENG4U Annotated Bibliography
Research a recent Canadian Immigration/ Refugee Experience of your choosing (Syrian Refugees, Ukrainian Refugees, Afghan Refugees). Compare their experience to the experiences of West Indian Domestic Immigrants in Canada in the 1950s and 1960s. What Canadian immigration policies were deemed racist and eventually changed?
Find a minimum of 2 articles and a maximum of 3 articles on your topic. Summarize each article using the format of an annotated bibliography. Pay attention to the economic pressures of migration and changing family relationships. Include and/ or reference your own family’s immigration story in OR reference the experiences of the characters in the play.
You may use school databases (EBSCO, for example) and other reliable resources and websites in your research process. Your resources must be from 2000 to present.
Below are sections to include in your annotated bibliography. You may respond to each section in a new paragraph. You do not have to address each question individually, however you must include all 4 sections for a complete annotated bibliography
1. Summarize
– What are the main arguments?
– What is the point of the article?
– If someone asked you what this article is about, what would you say?
2. Assess
– Is it a useful source?
– How does it compare to other sources youve looked at?
– Is the information reliable? (Is it professionally written, does the information seem accurate and true?)
3. Reflect
– Was this source helpful to you?
– How does this source help your understanding of the topic?
– Has it changed how you think about the topic?
4. Reference/ connection to your familys immigration experience OR the experience of the characters in the play
Technical Details
Your annotated bibliography should follow MLA formatting
Your annotated bibliography should NOT include quotes
You only need the bibliography at the top of your annotation, no in text citations required (unless referring to multiple works)
Works cited page required (with second line hanging indents)
Organize your annotated bibliography in alphabetical order by author’s last name
Each annotation should be no longer than 1-2 pages long
