Music and Movement Narrative

The activity will demonstrate how music influences our feelings and how we can use it to help children understand their feelings. In addition, analyzing the guidelines for implementing movement in the ECE classroom will result in purposeful planning of activities that involve movement.

Write a 2-page narrative responding to the questions from Part 1 and Part 2.

Part 1: Music
To comprehend how much music is a part of your life and its impact, create a playlist of music. The playlist should include a song that:

1. makes you want to dance
2. makes you want to sing
3. involves a musical instrument you wish you were playing
4. consists of a music video
5. calms you
6. inspires you
7. reminds you of another person

Think about the feelings that each of these songs brings out in you. Based on this activity, describe how will you use music to bring out these feelings in children. Give three specific examples.

Part 2 Movement
Watch the TeachSource video in the eText, section 16-3A titled, “2 – 5 Years Observation.” Respond to the questions below:

1. Using the basic guidelines for using music to introduce creative movement presented in this chapter, identify at least three guidelines evident in this video. Give specific examples from the video in your answer.
2. Identify two specific additional guidelines you would add to enhance the children’s creative movement experience. Give examples.
3. Choose one of the special needs – ADHD, developmental delay, physical impairment. How would you adapt the music/movement activity in the video to ensure you are meeting the special need?
4. What do you want to remember when planning movement activiticixes for children? Give one example.
