Sign up for the theorist you will study for your theory project.
Theorist sign-up instructions:
1. Select “People” on the course navigation menu.
2. Select “Nursing Theorist Group.”
3. Select “JOIN” for any theorist that contains 0 students.
4. Do not select a theorist that contains one student.
5. Joining a “Group” reserves the theorist.
Refer to the list of 23 theorists in the Theory Project Overview to make your choice. Once you have selected your theorist from the group list, discuss who you selected, provide your rationale for your selection, and discuss strategies for your presentation. Always remember to cite and reference the theorist you are speaking about and where you found that information. As the week progresses, the choices become limited; you may want to check with your professor regarding availability.

Theory Project: Overview and Timeline
Description
During this course, you will learn about many nursing and health-related theories. To learn more about a particular theory in depth, you will be required to select one theory and create a 5- to 20-minute video presentation about the theorist (see the following list ). Your video presentation will include some biographical information about the theorist and their influences, an overview of the theory, a critique of the theory, a measurable concept of the theory, and a description of the theorists most significant contributions to nursing/health care. You also will demonstrate the application of the theory to show its application to clinical practice.
During each week of this course, you will be required to complete a portion of this presentation. During Week 1, you will select a theorist and provide a rationale for your selection. There will be no duplicate presentations; if your preferred theorist has already been selected, you must select another theorist. If you are not sure who you want to select, reflect on your own clinical practice and consider some concepts and topics of importance to you. Perform a literature search using those words combined with “theory” and you will find theories from which to choose. Your presentation will be more meaningful to you when you select a theory that is of personal and professional interest to you.
Because dissemination of information is an essential piece of scholarship, during Week 7 you will be sharing your presentation with your peers, and during Week 8 you will be giving constructive feedback to each other using the grading rubric provided.
