Write a paper assessing the overall effectiveness of the government or political system within a nation state of your choice (you may use the two from your projects in class but this is not simple restating of your previous work). Your paper should be double-spaced, times 12 point font, and must include a reference list (APA formatting preferred). You must cite at least five (5) sources outside of class, preferably from academic journals within the past three (3) years. Please see the Research Paper Rubric for more details.
Select two nation states (not the U.S. nor Canada) and compare their forms of government paying close attention to where power is centralized within that society and the role of citizens (if any) in the political process. (ex. democracy, autocracy, theocracy, etc.) Be sure to state which of the two you feel is more effective in addressing its citizens needs in your thesis.
Next, select three social issues facing both nation states and their people. You will analyze each issue within a sociological framework, examining the power dynamics between citizen and state. (ex. ethnic conflict, ebola outbreak, HIV/AIDS, civil unrest, poverty, etc.). You will evaluate each governments response to the three common issues that you selected.
Finally, elaborate further on your opinion and evaluation of the overall effectiveness of each nation state as you summarize your argument and restate your thesis.
