In many images from previous chapters, the viewer would often see a painting that was a straightforward portrait, still life, or landscape. Looking at the images in Chapter 31, the viewer has to work a little harder when confronted with these styles of art. What do I mean by that?
2. Architecture has an obvious function as a container, be it residential or commercial. Architecture also has the role of shaping your day-to-day visual environment. As you move about the city each day, do you notice the buildings around you? What type of buildings do you find attractive and which ones do you think create a negative visual experience for you?
3. How do you feel about environmental art such as Smithson’s Spiral Jetty (Fig. 31-52)? Do you think art incorporated into the natural world enhances an existing site or detracts from it?
