don’t worry about genre b.
Annotated bibliography.
FIND YOUR RESEARCH.
Before you can begin the ann. bib. itself, you first need to find your research. Make sure to search for the source types that may be required by your instructor.
READ YOUR SOURCES.
While you may have skimmed your research when you were gathering sources, make sure to take the time now to really read the sources’ content.
CREATE PROPER MLA CITATIONS FOR THE SOURCES.
The first step written step for your ann. bib. is to create proper citations for all of your sources you plan to include in the ann. bib. Follow the MLA rules provided by your instructor, on Talon. This is considered the “bibliography” portion of the ann. bib. These citations can also be used for your Works Cited in your essay itself.
SUMMARIZE EACH SOURCE’S CONTENT.
Once you have the citations, you can move onto the next part of the ann. bib.; the annotations. The annotations consist of three parts. Each part should be 1-2 sentences in length. The first part of the annotation is a summary. So, begin each sources’ citation with a 1-2 sentence summary.
EVALUATE EACH SOURCE.
The next 1-2 sentences of the annotation should be an evaluation of the sources’ argument, author, and overall content. Is the author credible? Does it seem to be unbiased? Who published the piece? Are they credible?
CONSIDER YOUR RESEARCH.
And last, but not least, the third component to an annotation is your reflection. Now that you have summarized and evaluated the sources’ content, do you believe it’s relevant to your essay’s argument? Is it credible enough to be in your essay? What would you use from the source in your essay? Write 1-2 sentences explaining how you could use the source in your essay.
WRITE OVERVIEW
The last step is to write the required overview. This overview provides your reader with context, explanation, and insight into your topic, your research experience, and the next steps you plan to take with your essay. This should be at least 1 paragraph in length and has its own page prior to the citations and annotations.
LASTLY, FORMAT.
Here are some formatting details you want to know:
All content should be in MLA formatting; TNR, 12 pt font, double spaced.
The ann. bib. citations should start with the citation, followed by the annotation. All citations should be in alphabetical order based on the first word and include hanging indents, as applicable.
Annotations should be indented to match the hanging indent/one tab length indented.
