Personal Comments:
Context: First, thank you for any interest; I really appreciate it! This would be a Masters’s/graduate level paper for a Graduate level seminar on the Global Cold War. In following this being a Masters’s/graduate level paper, a wide use of secondary sources (books, academic journals, scholarly articles, etc.) and select/fair use of primary sources (firsthand accounts, official government documents, etc.) would be required. If it is alright, the paper should have good grammar, punctuation, and spelling, along with structure, tense, clarity, and general English readability. Moreover, the paper should be 12 font, new times roman, double space and include footnotes/bibliography
Content: Ideally, the paper would be on 1962 Yemi Civil War within a Global Cold War Context. “The Global Cold war” is a broad term used for studying the Cold War outside of a euro-centered conflict between the US and USSR. “Global Cold war” studies often take a heavy, if not exclusive, focus on the third world and broadly treat the cold war as a global conflict occurring in the third world. The best scholarship on this matter comes by way of Odd Arne Westad’s The Global Cold War (2005) and The Cold War: A World History (2017). Good sample scholarship on the 1962 Yemi Civil War includes Asher Orkaby’s Beyond the Arab Cold War brings the Yemen Civil War, 1962-68 (2017), Yemen: What Everyone Needs to Know (2021) as well as podcasts he has conducted for the New Books Network (link below). It might be fruitful to also explore the term “Arab Cold War” (see The Arab Cold War: Gamal ‘Abd al-Nasir and His Rivals, 1958-1970 by Malcolm Kerr) and Egyptian intervention in the conflict as well. However, please note that while the current conflict in Yemen can be mentioned, the focus of the paper should be on Yemen during the global cold war, in particular the 1962 Yemi Civil War. Lastly, I am open to other topics the writer may deem easier to write, as long as they are within the context of the “global Cold War,” i.e., outside of US vs. USSR European conflict.
In sum: Please have a high-quality master/graduate-level academic research paper with extensive secondary and primary sources used on the 1962 Yemi Civil War within the global cold war. Other topics are possible as long as they fit within the Global War Context.
I hope this description is helpful! Please reach out if you need me to provide any more details or have any questions; I would happily respond!
