Link to list of cognitive biases – https://thedecisionlab.com/biases/
PROMPT: How do cognitive biases, theories about motivation/emotion (you can pick one from chapter 11 if you choose this topic), or psychological disorders impact our daily lives and decisions? How have they shaped our society?
Whatever you choose, make sure you pick just one topic. So, that means if you choose cognitive bias, pick ONE bias to do your research on, or ONE psychological disorder, or ONE theory on motivation/emotion.
Pick one topic within the fields list above and think about how you or someone you know has experienced it. If you cant think of someone specifically, think about examples from society.
If you wish to put a personal example in your essay, limit it to a page (one paragraph)
Do some research on EBSCO or our other library databases on how this theory/idea was discovered and its impact on human behavior and everyday life. If you wish to discuss its larger impact on society, make sure your extrapolations are founded on evidence from credible sources (scholarly articles). You must include AT LEAST 3 SCHOLARLY SOURCES.
When creating your thesis (the argument and ideas youll be discussing throughout the paper), make sure you do lots of research first! This way, youll have a good grasp of what youre looking into and can make a strong argument. Your thesis should be informed by your research, not the other way around.
Your paper should be in APA format, with 5 pages of your own writing, a title page, an abstract, and a reference page. This means that the total page count should be AT LEAST 8 PAGES.

Essay
Introduction
Explain your cognitive bias: what is it? When was it discovered? Has it been extensively studied, or is it a recent finding?
How does it impact daily life, choices, and/or society? (This should be your thesis)
Body Paragraphs (3-4)
Body paragraphs should all support your thesis; this could be talking about the history of the bias (who discovered it, why, when) and how research has developed around it.
Each body paragraph should contain at least one source and discussion on how this source supports your thesis. Evaluate the validity of these findings in your sources! Are they trustworthy, or are there confounding variables or biases?
Make sure you use in-text citations for quotes or ideas/information you got from your sources! If you dont cite both in-text and through a reference page, youre plagiarizing! Here is a link to Purdue Owl that can help with any APA citation questions! Click Here for Purdue OWL (Links to an external site.)
Make sure to connect your findings in the scholarly articles to your thesis!
Before submitting online, be sure your essay is in the right page order, formatted correctly, sections are separated, etc.
Conclusion
Restate your thesis
Put in one sentence about each body paragraph, summarizing your main idea and how it connects to your thesis.

*Here are some DO-NOTs for the Essay:
-DO NOT make unsubstantiated claims. Ex: When students take an exam, they become anxious. Ex: Men are much more violent than women.
As you can see with the two claims above, they make sense, but I have provided no evidence, quote, citation, or made reference to any piece of writing to back up my claim.
-DO NOT use any psychology websites or Wikipedia as sources for your essay. Scholarly/APA sources from EBSCO only!
-DO NOT use words such as “I” or “We”. This is a formal research essay. There should be no personal accounts of your own story or experience in the essay.
