This week we learned about Historical Trauma and how this might have inter-generational implications for mental and physical health. The Conceptual Model of Historical Trauma proposed by Michelle Sotero (assigned reading this week) includes Cultural Dispossession as a form of mass trauma. Beverly Cook proposes a framework for intervention to address ACEs which are rooted in tribal specific cultural traditions. When developing interventions to address health disparities among Native American communities:
1. How does the framework of Historical Trauma as an explanation of health behavior and health outcomes differ from other explanations of health behavior and outcomes?
2. Why might culture be an important factor for designing interventions to reduce health disparities?
3. Why might a community based participatory research or community partnered interventions be a useful strategy for engaging with communities that have experienced mass trauma?
