If your research is investigating or examining some perceived problem, does your essay offer any solutions?

The topic to be used for this essay should be focused, once again, on something of interest to you. In developing the topic you are choosing to devote your time to researching, you should think about what you would like to find out, as this writing should be as informative for you as it is for the reader. You should also be thinking about the type of material you will seek out in order to secure a broader perspective on your subject. You are encouraged to go beyond what you already know in writing this paper, which is why its called a research paper.

In order to be a successful essay, the paper must contain a clear thesis statement that is related to all parts of the essay. In other words, what is the main point of the paper? Throughout the process of completing this assignment, as a writer, strive to provide and utilize evidence that supports the main point or thesis of the essay. What do you want the reader to gain or understand as a result of reading your essay? Also, in the development process for this assignment, consider the following information as a way to think and write about your topic:

Background information about why you wanted to explore this question or topic.
Brief bit of information about your process including any difficulties you encountered along the way.
A description of your research results. What is your final analysis or interpretation?
What did you learn?
A conclusion that indicates what knowledge you acquired and possibly what parts of your question or proposition remain unanswered.
If your research is investigating or examining some perceived problem, does your essay offer any solutions?
Answers to these questions are not required to be included in the essay, but are certainly areas to use in order to help the development of the work. In the end, much of this information may end up as part of the final product. This is completely up to you as the writer.

To locate reliable sources to support your work, seek assistance from the reference librarians. Also, it is strongly encouraged that students make an appointment with a tutor in the Writing Center (Links to an external site.) for additional guidance on the development of the essay.
