You must complete a critical annotated bibliography that focuses on an issue related to literacy instruction. To complete this assignment you will identify a specific topic or issue and conduct research in current, peer-reviewed journals in literacy education to find information about the topic. In the critical annotated bibliography, you will begin with an introduction in which you define your topic, explain its significance, and briefly discuss your overall response to the articles you read. The introduction should be seven sentences, at least. Then you will include four critical, annotated bibliographic entries, one for each article. You are required to submit a copy of each article (PDF versions that you upload as separate files) together with your critical annotated bibliography (PDF or Word files only. Do not submit a .pages file.)
Each critical annotated bibliographic entry will consist of three parts:
1) a reference for the text (single-spaced, following APA style;
2) a brief article summary (seven or more sentences, in your own words); and
3) a critical response to the article (seven or more sentences, in your own words).
The critical response should address the following:
1. What did you learn from reading this article? For full credit, make sure to go beyond listing items, and evaluate or synthesize new ideas with previously learned class concepts.
2. When linking new concepts to previously discussed concepts from class, make sure to cite the appropriate class readings (or other source).
3. Discuss how the research in the article is applicable (or not) to your current future teaching. Give specific examples of how the information contained in the article can be put into practice.
