Assignment Description:
Many great leaders have helped to shape the profession we know as nursing. In this
course, you are learning about a variety of nursing theorists, as well as what it means to have a personal philosophy of nursing. This assignment requires you, the student, to examine your own personal philosophy of nursing, and the nursing theorist who has inspired you. You must also discuss what that philosophy looks like in the context of patient care. For example, if your
philosophy is based on Florence Nightingale, you could describe how you might give a patient nutritious food and sunlight. You will also describe how this philosophy will impact your nursing
career.
In addition, we must seek to continue the improvement of the nursing profession and
the care we deliver. This assignment also requires you to identify the relevance of the history of nursing to the current state of nursing, and discuss the potential for change in the future of nursing. In order for real change to occur, we must also identify and address any potential
barriers to change. Describe the historical context of nursing, its relevance to todays nursing practice, and what you see for the future of nursing.
You should produce a 4 page paper that describes 1) your philosophy of nursing, the nursing theorist who inspired you, and what this philosophy looks like in a patient care setting, AND 2) describe the historical context of nursing, its relevance to todays nursing practice, and what you see for the future of nursing.
