Valerie Lee argues that the body is socially and culturally constructed and clinically reconstructed. She also raises some questions for us to consider. The questions include “how does one’s body affect one’s sense of self? What are the cultural and political assumptions that various societies have about [gendered] bodies?…Are body, skin, and flesh the same?” (Reading Women’s Lives 284).
What is one thing that makes you think more about the gendered body that is represented or constructed through the media after reading the assigned articles and watching the video clips in this unit?
