REQUIREMENTS and EXPECTATIONS
– Understand problem, solution, and plan of action
– Comprehend clarity in professional writing
– Write a simple proposal with a feasible result
A good proposal lays out a problem, a solution, and a plan of action. In your finished product you will state the problem and solution in paragraph one. A pitfall of this assignment is to over describe the problem – don’t do that. Instead, a large part of your writing will come in the plan of action. This is a process writing, so it’s important in the plan of action to explain who is involved, what those people are doing, where those tasks occur, and the timeline of when events unfold. Paragraph one deals with why it’s a problem and how to solve it. The remaining paragraphs, in the structuring device we’re suggesting, help the reader understand who does what when where. Do not use the “I” in the proposal, since you might slip into writing a narrative. The audience for the proposal could be one person, so you want her attention. For you, think about some of these ideas. A proposal to set up an exercise and fitness club at your old high school. A proposal to set up a wellness center in your community. A proposal to establish some nutrition and movement workshops at your church. The goal here is to have something specific and local. Do not tackle world-wide, national, state, or even city issues. If you can see the problem locally, and you understand its context, you can see who is involved and what those people need to do in order to solve the problem. The Proposal should be two pages.
