An 8 page argumentative essay grounded in at least 5 credible sources
The largest task of the semester is this hands-on approach to source-based academic argument. This will involve a process of identifying a topic and focused area grounded in our research questions, examining claims and evidence, and looking at what the overall significance of our essay can be to ourselves and the world at large.
This paper should answer the research questions you generated earlier in the course and build on the event/work/thing/person/topic discussed in your Fact and Fiction piece from Unit 2 (unless you have met with me to discuss another option grounded in a different work or aspect of the course).
We will be doing a deep dive into the different stages of essay-writing in this unit that will comprise the majority of the semester. We will be looking at revisiting and editing our research questions, building a thesis and introductory paragraph, how to construct an outline, what makes for a successful conclusion, what is an annotated bibliography, and how this all comes together to form an academic essay.
