Using either Ryan Bloom’s essay, “Inescapably You are Judged by Your…” and James Baldwin’s “If Black English…,” you are to decide whether you support linguistion description (informal users/speakers of English) vs. linguistic prescription. From there, you are to find an article supporting your stance or one which counters your point of view (for the purpose of arguing against it– if you choose), create an outline listing your reasons why you support either uses of English, and where, in your outline, you will include your source material (the article you found). You must use MLA in-text citation of citing sources in your paper, which I’ve already posted pdf and you can also look at Owl.purdue.edu for clarification as there are numerous example of in-text citation. Please know that when citing, you don’t– or shouldn’t– in a short paper, cite lenghy paragraphs. Once or twice is probably enough, given you are using the source to support/sterenghten your point of view.
