After visiting an Addictions Treatment Facility of your choice, write a reflection paper on your experience and learning. Your reflection paper should include the following:
Identify the type of facility, and indicate whether it treats drug addiction, alcohol addiction, or both.
Indicate whether the facility is inpatient, outpatient, or both, and whether it is publically or privately funded.
Describe the typical caseload—size of the caseload and typical presenting problems.
Explain the typical treatment approaches, models, or strategies.
Determine if there are any specific ethical or legal issues for counselors working at the facility to consider.
Are there any diversity factors?
Identify and summarize the types of meetings and activities you were able to observe (or had to ask your point of contact to describe).
Are 12-step meetings part of the treatment program?
Explain the phases of treatment that are offered. Is there a step-down program, for example, inpatient treatment followed by intensive outpatient treatment (three or four sessions per week for three or four weeks), which leads to continuing care (one session per week for one to two years following inpatient or outpatient treatment)?
Indicate whether family treatment is part of the program.
Explain how clinical supervision is accomplished.
Conclude with your thoughts on how being in the facility made you feel. Explain whether you liked or disliked the incorporated strategies.
Support your assignment with at least three scholarly resources. In addition to these specified resources, other appropriate scholarly resources, including older articles, may be included.
