Write a research paper on Americas Issue With Private Prisons.I attached pictures with requirements. 12 pt font, double spaced, and either calibiri or times new Roman. In case you cant see the picture for whatever reason Ill paste what it says here: The term paper is intended to be an exercise in researching an issue as objectively as possible, including not only what the issue is, what arguments are on both (or even multiple) sides, who is participating in the issue, what tactics are being used, and potentially an assessment of who and how is actually succeeding in their efforts (this however is optional). For that reason, one of the first requirements is that the author cannot take sides. This includes not only open statements in support or against a particular view or selection of sources that could bias the conclusion. This is to emphasize a core aspect of this course. I want every student to be aware of their own values and the potential implications of those values, but I also want that determination to be based on actual facts. Please be aware that taking positions on this assignment will result in significantly reduced scores in two of the grading criteria.
First, an issue is a difference in some area of public policy, or potential public policy, that can be well defined, which means that everyone knows what it is about, can understand the implications, and is limited sufficiently that specific proposals can be made. An issue is something that could be specified in a legislative bill, providing both proponents and those opposed an exact understanding of what is being proposed. It is also something that different people legitimately disagree on. For example, gun control is not really an issue because it is too broad. Universal background checks to purchase a gun, or specific types of guns, is an issue. We know what the second means. The first could be anything from banning BB guns to allowing citizens to own armed tanks.
Note: A paper on the history of an issue area, or other general topic, is not acceptable. The focus must be on a current issue, with the bulk of the paper addressing current aspects.
The research will require looking at a variety of sources. Every effort should be made to find honest articles on what are the data, recognizing that no one can be totally objective. It will also mean that you must look at the arguments of advocates, whether individuals or interest groups (probably both). Don’t ask Democrats what Donald Trump wants–go to his website. Look for information from credible news sources. Avoid Fox and MSNBC for information on facts, although both may be beneficial to explore arguments for or against some aspect of an issue. Look to a variety of newspapers, magazines and other valid sources. If you don’t know who the sponsor is, whether a website or a paper publication, don’t use it. Also, try to find credible peer-reviewed articles on the issue using the SJDC (Goleman) library website.
A potential paper outline could be: 1) an introduction giving an overview of the paper; 2) a short history of the issue (this should be short–an extended, multi-page history will be considered off-topic); 3) an exploration the arguments on each side of the paper; 4) a discussion of key participants in the issue, both individuals and interest groups; 5) a discussion of what tactics these advocates are using; 6) a conclusion.
An alternative outline would include parts 1 & 2 above followed by 3) a discussion of who is one one side, what arguments they are making and what tactics they are using; 4) a comparable discussion for those on another side of the discussion; and 5 a conclusion.
As specified in the syllabus, this paper is required to be 10 pages long, with 12 references (excluding encyclopedias of all types, dictionaries and similar) and APA formatted.
The following are acceptable Term Paper topics. Any topic other than those listed must be submitted in writing four weeks prior to the due date for the term paper. Included in the suggested alternative topic must be specifics of the topics and suggested sub-topics.
