Pick any aspect of 20th century American popular music to focus on. So, that means that you can choose any topic that interests you from the Wu Tang Clan to accordion polka dance music. Remember the timeline of the course; your subject must touch upon the period of the 20th century. So, for example, Taylor Swift is out even though was born in 1989, because her singing career did not start until the early 21st century.
