I think most of us were horrified when reading about the story of Margaret Garner, a slave who would rather see her young children dead than be subjected to the tyranny of slavery. However, after reading Beloved by Toni Morrison, a novel based on Garner’s act, I think we could all understand how a mother could be driven to commit such a devasting act. Beloved is truly a work of art and, like all works of art, looking at it closely can make it more beautiful and profound. I would like you to write an essay in which you analyze Morrison’s writing to determine whether (for you) it was her characters, themes and/or the action in the novel that perhaps served to change your mind about the actions of a Margaret Garner. Please provide examples from the novel in your analysis. Your essay should use MLA Format and be at least two pages long.
