Think about the foods you eat on a day-to-day basis, perhaps focusing on what you have eaten in the last 24 hours. List or give some examples of the foods you think of. Then write a post that addresses all of the following questions and draws on concepts from related readings and other class materials to answer questions or contrast with your responses:
Who grew or raised the foods you consumed, to your knowledge? Who prepared them? How and where did you obtain these foods?
Do you find that you know little about where your food actually originates (before you get it from a supermarket or restaurant)?
What social and cultural factors have shaped why people eat the particular foods they do (draw on both the course materials and your own experience)? (Hint: Think about how food is symbolic, how it marks identity, and how economic structures shape the foods available to us – this is where you can bring in concepts from class materials.)
You will not receive credit for just listing the foods you eat. You need to engage with the course material and address the other questions, too!
