Expectations for First Draft of the Country Paper
Guiding question for grading First Drafts of the Country Papers.
– Does the draft demonstrate a serious first effort at writing a complete paper? A serious effort includes the following, at a minimum:
Word Count: 2,300 words+, e.g. the minimum word count indicated for parts I and II, which are:
– Part I: 1,300-1,600 words/4-5 pages
– Part II: 1,000-1,300 words/3-4 pages
– Full paragraphs and complete sentences are required.
– The paper may be missing an introduction and conclusion, but a strong effort is made to complete all parts of sections I and II as listed in the assignment guidelines and grading rubric
– The text should be clearly legible to an outside audience.
– Everyone has a different approach to writing and research, and it is okay if your draft is clearly still a work-in-progress. However, the draft should be clean enough that it can be read by your Professor or your peers as a single, coherent document. And since youll be getting feedback through peer review, the more effort you put into writing a complete draft, the more useful that feedback will be.
– You may include some notes to yourself or to your readers, but they should not be overwhelming to your audience. You may include place markers where you plan to expand your research or discussion of a topic in the paper, but keep in mind the first bullet point above (e.g. you need to address all parts of the paper).
Draft paper includes in-text citations and a bibliography.
– Make sure your citations are in APA7 style. For reference, see the APA7 citation tip sheet. Download APA7 citation tip sheet.
Draft papers that rely heavily on weak our unreliable sources and that do not include many academic sources will not receive full credit.
