Is it ethical for employers to monitor employees during non-work hours, locations, and activities?

Refer to the concepts presented in Chapters 18 and 19 of the textbook to address the questions related Part 1 and Part 2 in 750 – 1000 words. Ensure that you use appropriate headings and subheadings to identify which topic you are discussing and the specific question you are analyzing. You are required to include at least two scholarly references for each Part and you are encouraged to utilize the GCU Library and any other external sources to find cases, ethics reviews, and legal terminology.

Part One: Employee Monitoring

1. Should it be legal for employers to monitor their employees off-duty conduct? Support your stance with legal research.

2. Is it ethical for employers to monitor employees during non-work hours, locations, and activities? Explain and support your response with research.

Part Two: Religion in a Community Context

1. Identify and explain relevant laws regarding religion in public K-12 schools (consider both students and employees).

2. Should public K-12 schools allow students and staff who want to participate in voluntary prayer do so during school hours and during school-sponsored extracurricular activities? Support your stance with legal research: laws and appellate court cases.

Part 3 Draft memo to the CEO

The CEO has communicated to you the following dilemmas. Utilizing the previous research you conducted in Parts 1 and 2, draft a memo totaling 500 words for the dilemmas. Provide legal research and references to support your stance. Your instructor will provide feedback for you to review and incorporate into the Final Memo to the CEO assignment, due in Topic 6.

Dilemma One: Is the company legally allowed to monitor employees activities during non-work hours, locations, and activities? Explain your response and support your claims with legal research.

Dilemma Two: Based on law, is the company required to provide each employee specific days off from work for religious accommodations? If yes, explain under what circumstances schedule accommodations are required and what the company is required to do for schedule accommodations. If not, explain your answer. Provide legal research to support your claims.

While APA style is not required for the body of this assignment, solid academic writing is expected, and documentation of sources should be presented using APA formatting guidelines, which can be found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center.
