Your paper should take the form of an article announcing that you have just discovered a long-lost fifth letter in which Elisabeth replies to the points Descartes makes in his last letter (i.e., in the last letter of the exchange that actually exists). Your article should consist of two main parts: In the first part (which should be longer than the second part), you should provide the reader with the background needed to understand the new letter you have discovered. This should consist, first, in a discussion of the relevant points of Descartess substance dualism. (Please discuss all and only what is necessary to set up the interaction problem.) Second, it should include a clear and precise explanation of the main arguments and counter-arguments that Elisabeth and Descartes present in the existing letters. The goal here is for you to distill down the key claims and arguments and present them in a way that the reader can follow. The second part of your paper should be a copy of the letter from Elisabeth to Descartes that you found. If its not clear by now, this letter isnt real. You will pretend to be Elisabeth and write what you think she would have written had she replied to Descartess last letter. Would she have conceded his point? If so, which of her previous criticisms would she have dropped, and why? Or, conversely, would she have found his response unconvincing? How come? Whatever you decide to write on Elisabeths behalf, your letter should continue the discussion of the previous ones. That means, on the one hand, that it should not bring up some new, totally unrelated point. (For example, it shouldnt be: Yeah, but what about the problem of other minds! or something like that.) On the other hand, though, the letter should not simply repeat things that Elisabeth or Descartes already said in the previous letters
