This week you will read chapter 1 in Painter,
“Africa and Black Americans” which deals with
the African diaspora.
“Diaspora” is the scattering
of people who are of a common origin. So this
chapter deals with Africans on the continent of
Africa, with emphasis on classical African
civilizations. It also begins to discuss the impact
of enslavement on both Africa and America.
