Choose one of the following documentaries to watch covering our theme – Dance and Identity:
Dancing in Jaffa(available on Hulu, Netflix DVD, Youtube for rent and Google Play for rent) [documentary on ballroom dance]
Paris is Burning (Netflix, YouTube for free) *Note that this movie has nudity [documentary on voguing and the ball circuit]
A Good Man (Amazon Video for rent) [documentary on racism and slavery addressed in contemporary modern dance]
Rize (Free on Vudu, For rent on Google Play, Amazon Prime, YouTube, iTunes) [documentary on Krump and Clowning]
Dance Dreams: Hot Chocolate Nutcracker (Netflix) [documentary on Debbie Allen Dane Academy in Los Angeles]
Each of these movies deal with different social issues so watch the trailers for each and decide which theme interests you the most.

In a minimum of 700 WORDS (approximately 3 pages double-spaced), answer the following questions:

INTRO PARAGRAPH: Give a summary of the film and its major themes in your paper

BODY PARAGRAPHS: Choose TWO of the eight identities listed in the article above and answer the following prompts for the identities:

How does dance help an individual person form the FIRST type of identity? (Describe and analyze 2 moments in the film to support this)
How does dance help a collective group or community form the SECOND type of identity? (Describe and analyze 2 moments in the film to support this)
Be sure to include moments throughout the film, not just the beginning, to show you watched it in its entirety.

CLOSING PARAGRAPH: What have you taken away from this film about dance in relation to what you’ve learned in this course?

I want this to be a reflection of the entire course. How did going through all of the modules prepare you to watch this film and analyze it in reference to your understanding of this art form?

Be sure to cite the film in MLA 8th edition citation along with other source(s) if using paraphrasing and/or direct quotation within your writing and list your source(s) at the end on a Works Cited Page.

Individual Identity named from the article listing the 8 big identities (for example, Gender) with 2 moments from film to support

5) Separate works cited page with film citation and other source(s) in MLA 8th edition
