Directions
Post your answer to the following topics. Respond to two or more fellow classmates (2 posts). When crafting your posts, be considerate, resourceful, and pay special attention to the advancement of the discussion.
This week, you have a unique opportunity to create your PowerPoint and post it for peer review, evaluation, and discussion before you fine tune it for your final product. The PowerPoint is a 70 point assignment–so the peer review here is especially helpful!
I will be grading for all of the topics provided in this assignment. If you are confused or need help, please ask. I will be happy to help!
Follow the guidelines for assignment:
This week, we have covered 5 chapters (13, 14. 15, 16 and 17) and have been introduced to a variety of concepts about preparing reports and proposals and preparing and delivering business presentations. This exercise will show your understanding of the basic principles of PowerPoint design and the content in our week’s readings.
Part 1: Identify/pick five skills or topics that you have learned through our reading for this week. Use the list below to choose your topics. Mix and match from the list if you’d like.
Your goal is to have a UNIFIED topic for your presentation with a REASONABLE SCOPE. Pretend that you are the teacher/instructor for a lesson, and your PowerPoint will be your presentation tool.
Choose topics or strategies that you find interesting, surprising, or confusing–in ONE particular chapter, for example.
OR Choose topics or strategies that are totally new to you.
OR Choose the most important key points from a particular chapter.
OR Choose topics or strategies you’ve used before with good (or bad) results.
OR Pick one topic or strategy per chapter, or five strategies or topics from what you see as the most important chapter.
Part 2: Create a structured slide presentation that describes each of the five skills/strategies you identified. You may use any visual style that you feel is appropriate for the assignment. Review and implement the materials presented in Chapter 17 to create your slide presentation. Students may use Microsoft PowerPoint or Google Slides.
IF you’re using Google slides or another online/cloud resource, you MUST make sure you are choosing a “sharing” strategy that allows others to access the file. You may save your presentation as a .pdf if you have a hard time uploading it. This option is a secure way to make sure your presentation can be viewed easily and quickly.
Keep the following requirements in mind as you develop your presentation:
Your title page/slide should have your name, our class and date, and a TITLE explaining your purpose of the PowerPoint (this depends on the type of organization you’re choosing, like “Key Points from Bovee & Thill, Ch. 13” or similar.)
For our purposes–you must use at least 2 visual images throughout your presentation. (You can use more if they are effectively placed.)
Do NOT use visuals from our Bovee & Thill PowerPoints at the beginning of the units/chapters.
Do NOT copy and paste visuals from the online version of the textbook. You may want to create infographics to use!
ALL visuals must be appropriate to the topic, and they must be effective, not just clip art or randomly from the web.
ALL visuals must be SIZED appropriately to be seen from the back of the room if you were presenting.
Follow the 5×5 rule for text in presentations. See page 499 Creating Effective Slide Content
10 slides minimum
Start with a Title Slide–with heading info + TITLE of your presentation.
You can included an “agenda” or “table of contents” slide to frontload the presentation topics.
Use 1-2 slides for EACH of your 5 topics.
Use short, informative slide titles–to present the topic you’re presenting on each slide…
Use bulleted phrases, not sentences (NO paragraphs either!)–See Ch. 17 for proper slide construction.
FONT size = 30-32 for headings/titles per slide; do NOT go smaller than about 20-24 point font for the body of the slide.
Page close attention to appropriate color choices–Color is an important part of audience engagement.
Use color for emphasis, readability and contrast Selecting Design Elements
Paraphrase (put it into your own words) the information do not copy textbook information exactly unless you want to format the info as a QUOTE.
If you use exact language from the textbook for some of your bullet points, put quotation marks around
