Unit One Module Three

Answer the following prompt: “Industrialization and mass production initiated both modern America and rising inequality. How did the economic and social changes of this era affect ideas about gender, race, and class? Today the names of Carnegie, Rockefeller, and J. P. Morgan still conjure a sense of reverence for ideals of individualism, industry, competition, and the self-made man- those ideas were predicated upon the notions of Social Darwinism. Discuss the relationship between these ideas, what was Social Darwinism and to what did Gilded Age Americans attribute their success? Conversely, the Populist Movement exploded during this period- why? And why do you think they failed in their efforts?”
