Over the course of the semester, weve focused on understanding the conditions and processes that shape human development and contribute to mortality and morbidity in young people. The authors of the attached article, Bronfenbrenner & Evans (Nature-Nurture Reconceptualized in Developmental Perspective A Bioecological Model) ( uploaded file names reference paper) have a similar goal as they lay out a refined bioecological model of development based on 3 propositions:
Development takes place through processes of increasingly complex reciprocal interactions between people and their environments. Interactions that extend over time are called proximal processes. For the individual, the outcome of proximal processes is reflected incompetence or dysfunction.
The impact of these proximal processes varies as a result of developmental processes and environmental contexts.
Development requires active participation in complex reciprocal interactions with others with whom they develop strong connections over time.
When the article was written in 2000, the authors identified trends they believed would negatively impact youth in the future. As predicted, many of these trends have developed into the intractable problems we discussed in this course (i.e., violence, poverty, homicide).
Write a research paper, exploring a topic(s) of course lectures as it relates to the propositions in the model described by Bronfenbrenner & Evans. Present an original argument/discussion that shows your understanding of course concepts, their implications, and/or applications. Make sure it has an introduction, body, and conclusion (not labeled) but incorporated into a single, coherent paper.
