***I will write the conclusion page**
The goal is to take thoughts youve been working on in the 4 outlines and finish the process of writing. This is not a research paper. Youve already done the work.
Thoughts on how to approach:
1. Choose your outline
2. Look over your class notes and the notes I gave.
3. Think about the films weve watched for that thematic topic. How do those seem similar to the film you have chosen? Are there character archetypes? Story archetypes? Visual cues that seem to attach themselves to the genre? This can help you to flesh out your outline a little more before you start writing.
4. What myths does the film seem to correlate with or draw from? Do you want to keep with what you chose for your original outline, or do you want to focus on something different or just one (it can be easier to keep with just one myth as your myth example. It makes a tighter paper)?
5. You can discuss how the director gives a 20th/21st century spin on the genre– myths are constantly adapting to their audience and
period, how does it happen for your film? Why are these themes still relevant today? Notice how the focus is on the themes and how they apply across different mythic stories and come to us even in modern films.
You must get to at least the last of page 5 to count as a 5
page paper. Ten points off for each page that it is short.
5. Avoid things like due to the fact that throughout the ages it is
common knowledge that. These are wordy and the latter two are not provable. Good writing will also avoid sentences that start with
there is/are. Try to avoid words like thing and it. Better ways
exist in referring to an entity.
6. Avoid grandiose opening statements such as myths are present in all cultures and all times. Eh. Make your opening sentence to the point, make it relevant for what you will be writing about in the next couple of pages.
7. Do not use the first person. Write in 3rd person. No need to write I think that Hercules was given a hard life. If you write Hercules was given a hard life, it is more concrete, you are more likely to back it up with facts, AND I already understand that your opinion is being discussed.
8. No contractions. Write them all out
Some films we watched were Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief, The Day After Tomorrow (2004), : Odyssey- 1997 (mini-series), The Epic of Gilgamesh, Disneys Hercules (1997), Romeo + Juliet (1996), The Cook, the Thief, His Wife and Her Lover (1990) .
