This assignment, which is worth up to 100 points, is a creative-writing challenge. We know that most stories are written in the third person, but we have also seen many stories written in the first person. We may already have discussed the fact that stories can also be written in the second personwith difficulty.
Our taskand it is a serious challengethis time around is to write a piece using the first-person plural point of view; that is, using we, much as we have been doing so far in this little bit of text. (For other discussions and examples, see: Ruth Maxey, William Faulkner, and some thoughts about the idea on StackExchange.)
This must be a fully-realized work, but it can be of any type: prose or poetry, fiction or non-fiction, genre-based, academic, or literary, or anything else that excites us as writers. The important thing is to open ourselves up to the possibilities that can come out of the restriction. The challenge, to which we as authors must rise, is to understand that even in limitation there can be freedom.
The work must be at least 1000 words in length in order to earn up to 50 points, but a piece that is over 2500 words will earn us double points, up to a maximum of 100 points.
