Psychological Disorders in Film Essay – Much of what we see portrayed in movies is not be based on accurate psychological information, which can lead to confusion about psychological disorders. Select one of the following films and review the film as a Psychology student, not just as a movie watcher.
SUBMISSION FORMAT:
1-2 Paragraphs: You must provide an overview of the selected movie.
3 Paragraphs: You will discuss the DEVIANCE, DISTRESS and DYSFUNCTION of the character depicted in the film.
Your review must include specific examples from the film.
1 Paragraph: What is the disorder depicted in the film and a brief summary describing the disorder.
1- 2 Paragraphs: Based on your reading and knowledge on the disorder, determine if the film accurately depicts the disorder identified or if it is flawed. This is a review based on psychological information provided in the
textbook.
1-2 Paragraphs: How are psychological disorders and mental health issues treated in popular media? What message does the general public receive about mental illness and/or treatment of disorder?
This should be a concise 2-3-page critical psychological analysis of the film, not an overview of what you think about the movie in general. A list of accepted films is provided. If you have a film in mind and it is not on the list, please clear with the instructor before completing this project.
