A significant part of our course will be spent investigating theories that help explain how cultural texts construct our identities in terms of class, race, sex, gender, sexuality, nationality, and so on. Other theories help explain why we like the TV shows, movies, and music
that we do. In this assignment, students will use theories/concepts from our course to analyze a cultural text. Each analysis paper will describe a cultural text; use scholarly sources to specify a
theoretical approach (e.g., genre, feminist theory, marxist etc.); and then provide a smart analysis that helps us to understand more about the text and our culture. These will be graded for detail, organization, clear connection to course material, and delivery.
