I would like my SOP if it’s possible and necessary, to contain some of the next information:
– I like science because I think it explains the fundamentals of everything.
– I was studying chemistry at the University of Antioquia in Colombia (2018-2020), but I decided not to continue because last year protests started all over my country and classes got interrupted, some professors resigned, and the quality of the courses decreased considerably. Even though my university was considered one of the best in my country, I knew that I wasn’t going to receive good enough foundations to become a competent scientist as I always wanted to be, due to that situation. That’s when I started to look for opportunities to study abroad, and while I was doing some research regarding the best universities to study chemistry, I found out that according to many ranking on the internet (www.topuniversities.com, www.usnews.com, etc) the chemistry department at Monash was among the top in the world (the best in Oceania); besides, I read that the major covers Medical Chemistry, and that made me so excited as I’m especially interested in the applications that chemistry has in medicine, for example, for combating diseases, developing drugs, etc. To sum up, that’s why I decided to apply for this University, as I’m willing to take this major and learn along with some of the best researchers in this field.
-In high school, I always achieved the best grades in my classroom. That is why I received many recognitions such as being invited to an event called “the night of the best” in the last term of each year, and many other medals for my great academic performance; In addition, I was a monitor of different subjects during all the years.
