How the peer-reviewed article and the review of the article changed the way you think about the topic of discussion.

This assignment requires students to read a peer-reviewed article each week from William Penn University Wilcox Librarys online database (EBSCO) that relates to the content of the assigned readings from the course textbook.

In the textbook Chapter 9: Violent Crimes

Article reviews will be approximately 2 pages in length (not including title page or references). An essential feature of a good article review is the ability to provide a concise and comprehensive evaluation of the peer-reviewed article. So, do not write more, write more concisely find creative ways to connect material from the course textbook to your critical evaluation of the peer-reviewed article you read for the week in a short review.

The point of an article review is not to summarize what you read, but to identify the merit of the peer-reviewed article and to critically evaluate what was written by the scholar by using content from the course textbook to support your argument. Hence, the bulk of the body of ones article review will be a summary of what you read (as it pertains to content in the course textbook) and a critical evaluation of the peer-reviewed article.

Among the features of a strong review are:

– A discussion of the main contentions discussed by the author in the peer-reviewed article.

– An explanation of theory (theories) and/or concept(s) mentioned by the author in the peer-reviewed article you read for this assignment.

– An assessment of the strong point or shortcomings of the peer-reviewed article.

– How the peer-reviewed article and the review of the article changed the way you think about the topic of discussion.

Finally, you will want to make references to specific portions of the peer-reviewed article by using citations (and some direct quotes) to illustrate your evaluation. The challenge will be to do as much of this as possible and yet not let it interfere with the restricted length of the review. In other words, find creative ways to give examples from the peer-reviewed article and course textbook in the limited amount of space allotted to you. Obviously, direct quotes should be kept to a minimum and they should rarely exceed a single sentence
