In answering the question recall that Reconstruction was the era following the American Civil War that ended slavery and integrated former slaves into general society in the south. Note that there was resistance to the integration of blacks into slavery by many whites. However, in the lectures and media I presented to the class, I introduced to you the constitutional amendments, Supreme Court decisions, and both federal and state laws that either supported integration or resisted integration throughout the nation.
