Risk Management – Walgreens Boots Alliance

Study your assigned corporation (https://www.walgreensbootsalliance.com/) to get started, examine the 10-K, annual report, and other information on the website. Specific loss data wont be available, so make some assumptions about frequency and severity of the specific loss exposures that you identify in step 2, and use your own estimates to create the risk map and determine priorities and methods of treatment in step 3.
2. Think as a risk manager wouldimaginewhat could go wrong? Identify one different major loss exposure in each of the categories of strategic risk, financial risk, operational risk, property hazard risk, liability hazard risk, personnel hazard risk, and net income1 hazard risk. Be sure to connect these category labels with the examples that you identify. This will result in a total of seven different exposures. Please remember in context of pure hazard risk, net income losses
would be those caused by events such as damage to property, a lawsuit, and/or loss of a key person that causes an interruption in operations that causes a net income loss.
3. Use some creativity, in addition to your financial reports and an Internet search in your industry for significant losses, to estimate the dollar size (severity) and frequency of each exposure, use the Prouty Approach (textbook page 4.31) and plot the seven exposures on a risk map to help the risk manager determine priorities. Explain why you would expect the loss exposures would have a high or low severity, and a high or low frequency. Outside sources of information about
similar losses for similar organizations can be helpful and add legitimacy to your findings and recommendations. (You do not need to perform a quantitative or statistical analysis calculating standard deviations for this assignment.)
4. Review the risk management techniques (e.g. avoidance, loss control, diversification, retention, funded reserves, duplication, hedging, insurance, etc.) most appropriate for the exposures identified. Recommend a technique or combination of techniques to be implemented, explaining how the technique(s) would be used to address the exposures identified. Correctly label and clearly connect the recommended techniques to each of the seven loss exposures
identified.
5. As you create and organize your slides, please use the following headings throughout the presentation to let the grader know when you are identifying risks, estimating their frequency and severity, and recommending risk management techniques for each exposure identified. Display the content in the order provided below to help everyone compare the differences among the different corporate presentations.
a. The initial slide of your presentation should include your Corporation Name
b. Description of the corporations mission (what does this company do?)
c. Display the following in the order provided with the following headings (see attached layout doc):
