For our major assignment this semester, you will be working on a two part
assignment to wrap up our study of the 1860s.These parts are a Google Slides
Presentation and a Reflection Paper. Below are the guidelines for these two
assignments.
Google Slides Presentation:
This will be a slideshow of five (5) slides of information. Each slide will include
a primary source document (photo, article, etc) and a statement on the slide that
relates the topic of the slide to the question What role did the government play in
promoting and/or hindering change in the United States in the 1860s?. If the document
can be posted on the slide it would be ideal, but if it is too large (ex. an article) then
a link may be substituted for the actual document. The document in each case is
meant to be the evidence to support the statement made on that slide. Remember
the scope of our course is the decade of the 1860s, so documents should be from
that decade.

Reflection Paper:
The Reflection Paper will be a 3-5 page paper that analyzes each of the five (5)
documents you chose in your slideshow and answers the following questions.
1. Why did you choose this document to support the statement on that
slide?
2. Why would someone feel this document does NOT support your
statement?
3. Do you feel someone from outside the United States would agree with
your statement based on what they see in the document? (In other words,
without any other information that most Americans would know.)
Your submissions for your Google Slide Presentation and your Reflection
Paper are as follows:
