Describe what you will be exploring in your final essay project.

Annotated Bibliography and Proposal
Do this assignment in preparation for your final drama essay.
Annotated Bibliography : Include a list of your two secondary sources in MLA format that you will be working with in addition to the play itself. You don’t need an entry for the play. If you are writing about Trifles or Fences, both sources must be scholarly. If you are writing an essay only about Water by the Spoonful, 1 of the 2 required secondary sources can be a popular source from a newspaper or magazine (you can use any of the print sources included in the Course Content folder for that play as one of the popular sources if you want).
Reminder: Scholarly sources are published in peer-reviewed journal articles or books often published by university presses; they are written by experts in the field, and will have in-text citations and references listed at the end. Newspaper and magazines are considered popular sources and while you could use them in this paper, they would not count as sufficiently academic to count as a scholarly source for this assignment. Also, textbooks and encyclopedia may be helpful in your research process, and you can certainly consult them and even cite them, but they are reference material and not considered scholarly for this project.
Under each entry in the bibliography, write a substantial one-paragraph annotation. Summarize the source’s argument. Then evaluate its strengths and weaknesses, indicate how you might use it in your Essay, and draw any connections it might have with your other source. See the sample annotated bibliography in Drama Unit Materials for guidance regarding format (the sample document uses the old MLA format for the source entries, but the general layout of the annotated bib is correct).
1-2 page Essay Proposal : After your annotated bibliography, describe what you will be exploring in your final essay project. What is your emerging argument? What characters and scenes from the play(s) will you be analyzing?
