Forum: Theological Reflections on Social Entrepreneurship (SE)
We will use this forum as a time to interact regarding a Theology of SE. Though there is much good done via SE, it did emerge more from the secular market of ideas. Having said that, many of the principles seem to fit into some of the biblical-theological framework for Business and Work that we have been developing in this course. To what we have already discussed, we could add that the in the Bible we clearly see the heart of God for those in poverty and those are that are underserved – and a call to care for them (ex. widows and orphans, James 1:27). SE also exemplifies putting community above profit, serving above competing, and letting workers enjoy a great share of company gains. Certainly there are flaws in SE, but much good is being done, and there are many Christian SE’s with a vision for the Kingdom.
Assignment:
Reflect on your readings about SE, draw upon your prior biblical background, and the theological work you have done in the course, and react to SE from a theological perspective. Would you say there is a theological argument to me made that supports aspects of SE? Why or why not? Share a few well written paragraphs with each other defending why you feel that way.
