This week, we examined social movements in the 1960s and 70s beyond civil rights activism in the US South, including their internal dynamics and how popular perceptions can differ from the reality of these movements. Citing the lecture, at least two supplemental media videos, and at least two of the assigned readings, please discuss the following questions:
Compare and contrast civil rights activism in Week 6 to the liberation/power movement activists from this week (one has to be either AIM or the Hawaiian Sovereignty Movement) . Be specific about points of commonality and points of difference in your analysis. Be sure to discuss the unique struggles that each of these movements faced based on their histories of racialization and racial oppression in the United State. How did activists across different liberation/power movements (one has to be either AIM or the Hawaiian Sovereignty Movement) work together and share similar goals in advocating for social justice? What motivated activists to engage in inter-/multiracial organizing?
